UMH will invest as Doctor Honoris Causa to Teresa Perales, winner of 22 Paralympic medals in swimming


02-05-16-honoris causa Teresa Perales def.docxThe Governing Council of the Miguel Hernández (UMH) of Elche has approved in its last meeting, the appointment as Doctor Honoris Causa of the athlete Teresa Perales, winner of 22 Paralympic medals in swimming. Professor of the Department of Physical Education and Sports and Director of the Department of Student with Disabilities UMH Raul Reina, will be the sponsor of the new Doctor Honoris Causa.

In Paralympic Games, the athlete Teresa Perales has it won 6 gold, 6 silver and 10 bronze between 2000 and 2012. From getting a medal more at the Games in Rio de Janeiro 2016, would become the Olympic swimmer / Paralympic medals with more history in the Olympic games and Paralympics. Also in World Championships he has broken five world records, 2 long and 3 short-course, and achieved 17 medals, while European championships has won 29 medals. Perales is also high-level athlete since 1998, attached to ADOP plan.

In Beijing 2008, he was elected to the Athletes’ Council of the International Paralympic Committee and re-elected in London in 2012. He is a member of the Council of Athletes Spanish Paralympic Committee since 2013, the Commission Paralympics International Paralympic Committee since May 2010, the Expert group on the development of the Comprehensive Plan of Physical Activity and Sport in Spain, ambassador of the Olympic / Paralympic Candidacy Madrid 2016 and 2020 and Matron of Inclusive Sport in Spain.

Teresa Perales has a degree in Physical Therapy from the University of Zaragoza (1996-1999), a professor at the University of Zaragoza of physiotherapy course in Paralympic sport for 2 years and in the summer courses at the University of Teruel, as well as the summer University Colindres (Cantabria).

On the other hand, he has been General Director of Care Unit of the Department of Social and Family Services Government of Aragon, advisor to the Department of Social and Family Services and the Department of Development and Sports of the City of Zaragoza.

In addition, he is a member of the Advisory Council of the Prince of Girona, ambassador of the Telefonica Foundation, sponsor of the Renault Foundation for sustainable mobility Foundation and has been honored by the Kings of Spain with the Royal Order of Sporting Merit with gold medal .
